Hatch & Care Guide:

Japanese Medaka Ricefish are hardy and adaptable when kept in a clean, stable environment. Regular water changes, good filtration, and a varied, high-quality diet are the foundation of long-term health. Avoid sudden fluctuations in temperature or water chemistry, as these can cause unnecessary stress and reduce breeding activity.

Observe your fish daily for signs of good health, including bright coloration, active swimming, healthy appetites, and smooth, undamaged fins. If introducing new fish, quarantine them whenever possible to reduce the risk of disease entering your aquarium or pond.

Medaka thrive in both indoor aquariums and outdoor tubs or ponds, where natural sunlight can enhance their colour and encourage breeding during the warmer months. Providing floating plants or gentle cover also helps fish feel secure while giving fry a better chance of survival.

NatHab Care Rating:

🟢 Beginner – Hardy, peaceful, and well suited to both new and experienced fishkeepers.

NatHab Breeder’s Tip:

Healthy Medaka breed most consistently when fed a varied diet of quality pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live foods, combined with long daylight hours during the breeding season.
