🦐 Caridina multidentata (Amano Shrimp)

Also known as Japonica shrimp or Yamato shrimp, Amano shrimp are prized freshwater algae eaters and a staple in any clean‑up crew. They are among the largest dwarf shrimp, reaching up to 5 cm, and are easily recognized by their greyish transparent bodies with rows of dots along each side.

🌊 Care Guidelines

  • Water Temperature: 18–24°C (we stabilize at 22°C)
  • pH Range: 5.8–6.8 (our tanks run 5.4–5.6)
  • TDS: 100–180 (we monitor weekly and change water at 160–180)

➡️ These are guidelines, not strict rules. The key is keeping parameters stable for long‑term health.

🍃 Diet

Amano shrimp thrive on a mix of:

  • Nature Boys botanicals (cones & leaves)
  • Specialized foods (Fruit Mix, Nettle Mix, Moringa Mix, Bee Pollen)
  • Natural grazing on biofilm and algae

💡 Tip: Clean only the front glass of your tank, leaving other surfaces for algae growth. Avoid overfeeding to prevent water quality issues.

🪢 Acclimation

We recommend the drip method over “drop‑and‑go”:

  1. Use airline tubing with a loose knot.
  2. Start a slow drip (about one drop per second).
  3. Continue until the water is a 50/50 mix of shipping and tank water.
  4. Let shrimp rest for another hour before netting them into the tank.

👉 This gentle process reduces stress, helps them regain color, and ensures a smooth transition.
